PHOTO: Vicki Brown

PRINCE GEORGE BC – Goals from Nick Rhéaume, John Herrington, and Ty Gagno, along with a dominating third period, turned out to be too little too late as the Salmon Arm Silverbacks were able to edge the Spruce Kings 4-3 on Friday night at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

1st PERIOD:

SA: Just over four minutes into the hockey game, Mathieu Cobetto-Roy was able to rifle a shot from the left circle off the bar and in to give the Silverbacks an early lead on the man advantage. Cobetto-Roy’s eighth marker of the season was assisted by Tucker Hartmann and Zack Smith at 4:02.

SA: Just over four minutes later, it was again Cobetto-Roy who got the puck at the right circle and registered a wrist shot through a bunch of bodies and by Aaron Trotter to double the Silverback lead. Cobetto-Roy’s second of the night and ninth of the season was assisted by Michael Ladyman and Mathieu Borgault at 8:03.

SA: Brandon Santa Juana was able to dislodge a Spruce King from the puck in the neutral zone, the puck then found Simon Tassy who got behind the defence and was able to make no mistake on a breakaway to make it 3-0. Tassy’s league leading 36th of the season was assisted by Santa Juana at 14:22.

PG: In the final minute of the period, a clean faceoff win in the attacking zone from Rowan Miller, came to Nick Rheaume and Rheaume ripped one from the right circle, going bar down on Owen Say to get the Spruce Kings on the board late in the first. Rhéaume’s team leading 24th of the season was assisted by Miller at 19:46.
