PHOTO: Garrett James

TRAIL BC – It was another multi-point night from Nick Rhéaume, collecting two goals and an assist, but two third period goals from the Trail Smoke Eaters, ended up taking the game to a shootout, and it was the Smoke Eaters who prevailed, defeating Prince George 5-4 in the extra frame.

1st PERIOD:

PG: Luc Laylin got the puck at the right circle and fired it off the end boards, the puck redirected to Kolton Cousins in tight and whacked at it, but it was Laylin who shovelled home the loose change to get the Spruce Kings on the board. Laylin’s fifth of the season was assisted by both Cousins and Ben LeFranc at 6:07.

PG: Just over two minutes later, Nick Rhéaume went in on the forecheck, and forced a turnover and took the puck from Cameron Moger, and Rhéaume had some space and made a nice move and outwaited goaltender Cole Tisdale to make it 2-0 Spruce Kings. Rhéaume’s 17th of the season was unassisted at 8:36.

PG: A few minutes later, it was great work from Rowan Miller and Nick Rhéaume in the offensive zone, and Rhéaume spotted Miller at the right circle and put it by Tisdale to give the Spruce Kings a 3-0 lead. Miller’s 13thof the season was assisted by Rhéaume at 11:18.

TRA: It was a bit of a miscue between goaltender Jordan Fairlie and his defender, as Brady Hunter was able to take advantage of the turnover and put the puck in the wide-open cage to make it 3-1. Hunter’s 12th of the season was unassisted at 14:06.
