Spruce Kings Win Chilliwack Pod With 4-2 Victory Over Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings were able to win the final game of the season, 4-2 over the Chilliwack Chiefs, which gave the Spruce Kings the Chilliwack Pod winners crown. Christian Buono, Tanner Main, Kilian McGregor-Bennett, and John Herrington all found the back of the net, while Aaron Trotter was fantastic once again making 25 saves in the victory.

1st Period:

PG: 2:54 into the period, Christian Buono carried the puck into the attacking zone on the left wing and wired a wrist shot that went off the back bar and down to give the Spruce Kings an early lead. Buono’s 14th in the pod and 100th career BCHL point was assisted by Tanner Main and Mason Waite.

PENALTY SHOT: Nick Rheaume got whacked at by Trevor Longo on a breakaway which resulted in a Spruce Kings penalty shot. Rheaume was stoned by Caron who made a save with the left pad on the Rheaume shot.

PG: Not even three minutes later, off a Spruce Kings faceoff win, Buono made a fantastic play to Tanner Main at the right point and a seeing eyed wrist shot from Main found its way through traffic and past Mathieu Caron to give the Spruce Kings a two-goal lead. Main’s first as a Spruce King was assisted by both Buono and John Herrington. Main’s tally came at 5:49 into the first period.

PG: The Spruce Kings continued to pour it on in the first period. Mason Waite made a pretty no look, backhand pass to Kilian McGregor-Bennett, and the 17-year-old forward wristed a laser past Caron to give the Spruce Kings a 3-0 lead. McGregor0Bennett’s first BCHL goal was assisted by Waite and Kolton Cousins.

CWK: On a Chiefs power-play, it was Abram Wiebe from the right point and threw a shot towards the goal that went off the glove of Aaron Trotter and into the net to get the Chiefs on the board late in the period. Wiebe’s third in the pod, came from Ethan Bowen and Kyle Penney at 18:05.
