SPRUCE KINGS SNAP 6 GAME SKID | 3-2 Winners in Surrey

SURREY BC – A three-point night from Preston Brodziak and 27 big saves from Jett Alexander was just what the doctor ordered, as the Spruce Kings skated to a 3-2 victory on a Friday night in Surrey.

In the opening frame, it was PG native Corey Cunningham who started the scoring. Cunningham got the puck free after a faceoff win from Preston Brodziak. Cunningham then took the puck and wrapped it around and tucked it glove side on Thomas Scarfone to give the Spruce Kings a 1-0 lead. That was all the goal scoring in the opening twenty minutes, 1-0 PG after one.

In the second, the Spruce Kings penalty kill was put to work. Prince George killed four penalties in the frame and got rewarded with a shorthanded goal. Brodziak picked the pocket of Wyatt Schlatt at the Surrey blue line and then wrapped the puck around the goal and shovelled it by Scarfone to give the Spruce Kings a two-goal lead after forty minutes.

In the final frame, it was the Eagles getting on the board. Team leader in scoring, Christophe Tellier cut in and let it rip top corner on Jett Alexander to make it two one. Tellier’s 17th tally of the season was also the Teddy Bear Toss goal for the Eagles. A few minutes later, the Spruce Kings found themselves on their 6th power-play of the night and were finally able to convert. A Nick Bochen point shot was stopped by Scarfone, Fin Williams tied up his man in front and it was Brodziak who fired the puck in the yawning cage to give the Spruce Kings a 3-1 lead. Brodziak’s second of the night has him now tied for the scoring lead with 12 goals. In the final minute, the Eagles were able to get one back as captain Hudson Schandor went top corner from the left circle on Alexander to make it 3-2. That was as close as the Eagles would come as the Spruce Kings held on and snapped the 6 game skid, and were 3-2 winners.

The Spruce Kings wrap up 2019 on Sunday afternoon against the Langley Rivermen. That one is slated for a 2:30 PM start. You can catch the action on Mixlr.com or on HockeyTV. Pre-Game will be at 2:10 with play by play at 2:30.
