COQUITLAM BC – The Spruce Kings got a goal from Nick Bochen and limited Coquitlam to three shots in the third period; however, they were unable to get past the Express and fell 4-1 on a Wednesday afternoon in Coquitlam.
In the first frame, it was a fairly even period with shots just three a piece in the first period. The Express eventually would start the scoring as affiliated player Austin Fraser redirected a point shot from Addison Macey that found its way past Carter Woodside to give the Express an early 1-0 lead. 25 seconds later, Ethan O’Rourke muscled by the Spruce King defenders and made a nice move around Woodside to make it a 2-0 Express lead. Just over a minute later, the Express scored yet again. On the power-play, Cooper Connell got a back door feed from Greg Lapointe that beat Woodside on the glove side to up the Express lead to 3-0. The Spruce Kings found themselves down by three after the opening frame.
In the second period, no goal scoring happened, however, there were a pair of tilts. Carter Cochrane dropped the mitts with Christian MacDougall as they both landed heavy punches and then fell to the ice. Cole Leal then squared off with Bradley Ong in front of the Express bench as they also both landed good shots and wrestled each other to the ice. The score remained 3-0 after two periods.
In the third, the Spruce Kings finally got on the board at 6:27 off a wrist shot from Nick Bochen. Bochen went top corner on the glove side of Clay Stevenson to make it 3-1.The Express would then put the dagger in the Spruce Kings as it was Connell again from Lapointe to make it a 4-1 lead for the Express. That was all that was needed as Coquitlam skated to a 4-1 victory against the Spruce Kings this afternoon.
