Spruce Kings move to 2-0 at NJAC

The Prince George Spruce Kings were powered by a pair of power-play goals on Monday night in a 4-0 shutout win over the Ottawa Jr Senators at the National Junior A Championship in Brooks, Alberta.

Nick Poisson got the Spruce Kings on the board in the opening frame, after Chong Min Lee ragged the puck back and forth behind the net for 10 seconds before sliding it across for Poisson to hammer home.

After a double minor penalty to the Senators, Nick Bochen would add his first of the tournament just seven seconds into that man advantage, to make it 2-0. Dylan Anhorn and Ben Brar added assists

Prince George was given a 5 on 3 to start the middle frame after a Bench Minor, and Brar made it 3-0 just 36 seconds into the period, as Anhorn and Patrick Cozzi drew the assists.

Dustin Manz backhanded one home at 18:24 of the second to give the Spruce Kings a 4-0 lead heading into the intermission, with Cozzi’s second assist of the game and Layton Ahac grabbing helpers.

There wasn’t much in the way of action in the third period, as the Spruce Kings outshot the Senators 7-3, holding Ottawa to just 13 in the hockey game.

Prince George went 2/5 on the power play, while the Senators were 0/4.

Next action for Prince George is on Wednesday night against the Portage Terriers, the Central Region representatives and Manitoba Junior Hockey League Champions. Puck Drop is 6 PM BC time.
