Spruce Kings Roll Over Terriers

The Prince George Spruce Kings continued their winning ways, knocking off the Portage Terriers 5-1 on Wednesday night at the National Junior A Championship in Brooks, Alberta.

Dylan Anhorn got the Spruce Kings on the board just 55 seconds into the hockey game, as he made a great move around the defender and he snapped one home to open the scoring.

Prince George would add another one just after their first power play expired, as Chong Min Lee slid one through the legs of Terriers netminder Nathan Moore to make it 2-0.

A wicked shot by Ben Brar made it 3-0 with 3:59 to go in the first period as the Spruce Kings finished their dominating opening period outshooting the Terriers 20-3.

In the second, there was just a single goal, a power-play marker for the Spruce Kings, as Nolan Welsh tucked home a loose puck in the crease to make it 4-0.

The Terriers got on the board to start the third, before Nick Poisson picked up his third of the tournament to make it 5-1.

Both goaltenders for the Spruce Kings saw action in the hockey game, as Logan Neaton made 3 saves in the opening 20 minutes, before Keenan Rancier finished the game, making 6 saves on 7 shots.

Prince George outshot the Terriers 44-10.

The final day of the round robin goes Thursday at the National Junior A Championships, with the afternoon tilt determining 3rd and 4th place between the Oakville Blades and the Ottawa Jr Senators, while the evening game will see the Spruce Kings and Brooks Bandits duke it out for 1st in the round robin during the nightcap.
