The Prince George Spruce Kings fired 44 shots on the Alberni Valley net and came away with a 5-2 victory on Friday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
After a first period that seemed to end in a blink of an eye, seeing a 10 minute stretch with no whistles and no scoring or penalties to speak of, the activity ramped up in the middle frame.
Brady Anes got his fourth of the season at 6:39, deflecting a Trent LeDrew point shot past Ryder Shea to make it 1-0.
Nick Metelkin would make it 2-0 just 2:15 later, putting a loose puck past Shea to widen the gap.
The Spruce Kings would make it 3-0 at 12:52 of the frame, as Kazumo Sasaki drove the net and had some puck luck to get it across the line. Corson Maguire made a great play to force a turnover, found Sasaki streaking to the net, and his backhand move bounced off the pad then Sasaki’s skate.
Rough stuff was the name of the game for the next couple of minutes, as Caden Tremblay of the Bulldogs was ejected for a cross-check on Linden Majow, followed by a fight between Isaac Holt and Cedricson Okitundu.
Sasaki would get his second of the night at 17:05 with a power-play goal, as Owen Goodbrand drew the assist.
The Bulldogs got one goal back with 1.2 seconds remaining in the second.
In the third, Goodbrand would get a power-play goal from Nick Metelkin at 6:16, putting home the rebound in front.
The Bulldogs made it 5-2 at 11:04 to round out the scoring.
