Spruce Kings Acquire Committed Defenceman

The Spruce Kings have added a key component to the blue line with Jake McCarthy

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) are pleased to announce the commitment of ’96 born defenseman Jake McCarthy for the 2014/2015 season.

The 6’1” 195 pound Massachusetts native comes to the Spruce Kings after playing last season for the Portland Jr. Pirates of the United States Premier Hockey League. Prior to that, Jake played three seasons at St. Sebastians School and is committed to the University of Massachusetts for the 2015/2016 season.

“Jake is a player that I’ve been recruiting for the past several months,” said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. “He’s a big player who skates well for his size and doesn’t mind the physical side of the game. He has a good skill set and thinks the game well and will come in here and be able to play in all situations for us this season as he develops for his transition to NCAA division 1 hockey.”

“He has good core values and comes from a strong family which will allow him to fit in well with our tremendous group of returning players,” added Hawes.

Jake McCarthy will join his new Spruce Kings teammates just prior to the start of training camp which begins on Friday August 29th.
