PRINCE GEORGE BC – Nick Poisson continues to do Nick Poisson things and scored the game winner late to give the Spruce Kings a 4-2 victory on Mohawks night.
In the opening frame, both teams traded chances and power-plays, but were unable to find the back of the net for a good chunk of the period. It took until 18:33 for the Spruce Kings to start the scoring. Fin Williams got the puck in tight and put it top corner to give the Spruce Kings a 1-0 lead. PG took the one goal lead after the opening twenty minutes.
In the first intermission, it was time to recognize the Prince George Mohawks. 20 different Mohawks were there to be recognized and all got a phenomenal ovation from the 1657 in attendance.
In the second period, the Spruce Kings went back to the power-play and converted once again. Newly acquired Spruce King Haydn Delorme fired it by Fleming to give Prince George a two-goal lead. Not even three minutes later, Rivermen forward Jonathan Stein was able to whack the puck past Carter Woodside to make it 2-1. Just over two minutes later, Langley went back to the was able to tie the game. Captain Tanner Versluis placed a picture-perfect shot top corner on Woodside to tie the game at two. The score remained tied after 40 minutes.
In the third period, it was a phenomenal pace throughout the entire frame, and it took until 17:14 of the period for Nick Poisson hammered home a one timer on the power-play and sent the near sold out crowd into a frenzy to give the Spruce Kings the lead. Poisson then scored again shorthanded to the empty net and regained their two goal lead. That was all that was needed as the Spruce Kings snapped their three game skid and defeated the Rivermen 4-2.
