The Trail Smoke Eaters did damage early in the first and the third periods in a 4-3 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings on Sunday night in Nisku, Alberta.

Erik Larson got the goals started at 1:12 of the opening frame off a scramble in front, before Caden Stoltz scored just 2:26 later to make it 2-0.

Prince George would respond on the power play at 17:51 as Trent Gates raced past a defender for a loose puck and tucked it home.

The power play would stay hot in the second as Ryan Wachtel scored his seventh goal in seven games to extend his streak, tying the game from Charlie Spencer and Max Mahoney.

The quick attack struck again in the third, as Larson’s second of the game was on the power play at 3:11, and off the next faceoff, Chase Nehring scored just 13 seconds later to give the Smoke Eaters a 4-2 lead, chasing Ryder Green from the net in favour of Cody Arnold.

Cooper Faughnan’s fifth of the season got the Spruce Kings back within a goal with 1:33 left, but they could not find the equalizer.

The Spruce Kings wrap up the BCHL Showcase on Monday at 12:00 pm PACIFIC in Nisku where they’ll take on the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
