1. US

The Spruce Kings are coming off a big 2-1 win last night against the Victoria Grizzlies. Jett Alexander was sensational making 37 saves in the victory. Chong Min Lee finished with two assists, and was rewarded with first star honours. Nolan Welsh and Nick Poisson had the Spruce King goals in the victory as well. Alexander knows that the win was big last night, but also knows that the work is not done, “Sunday’s are always hard games, but we have to bear down especially with a quick turnaround with the game being at 2:00 against a very good team, so it’s time to put this Victoria game in the back burner and focus on Cowichan.”

2. THEM

The Capitals are coming off of a 4-3 loss at the hands of the red hot Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Cruz Cote, Tanner Sidaway, and Matthew Crasa all had goals in the setback for the capitals. Offensively, hometown boy Luc Wilson currently is a point per game this season and leads the team in points. Wilson sits with 18 points in his team’s first 18 games. Cowichan has also gotten some great goaltending out of Zach Borgiel who sports a 10-5-0-1 record on the year with a 2.93 GAA. The Caps have had a heck of a start to the season, as they are tied for first in the Island Division with the Nanaimo Clippers heading into today’s game.

3. US VS THEM

This is the first out of two meetings between the Capitals and Spruce Kings. The last time these two teams met in Cowichan was last season, where the Capitals were victorious by a 5-2 score. Today marks the first time that Spruce King forwards Preston Brodziak and Kolton Cousins will play against their former teams.

4. THIS AND THAT

THIS: Following this afternoon’s game with Cowichan, the Spruce Kings return home for a pair of games against the division rival Langley Rivermen. That double-header weekend begins Friday at 7 PM. THAT: Nick Poisson has had the Spruce Kings last opening three goals in the last three games heading into this afternoon. The Spruce King vet currently sits with a team leading 20 points on the year.

5. PLAYERS TO WATCH

SPRUCE KINGS – (F) NICK POISSON

Poisson continues to impress each and every game this season. His line of himself, Chong Min Lee, and Nolan Welsh has delivered thus far, and they will look to bring the same energy this afternoon as they have all season.

CAPITALS – (F) MATTHEW CRASA

Crasa is coming off some big performances for the Capitals. The team’s leading goal scorer has three points in his last two games coming into this afternoon. He had a goal two nights ago against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
