SPRUCE KINGS FALL 6-1 IN COWICHAN

DUNCAN BC – It was not the ideal way to finish this Island road trip for the Spruce Kings, as PG fell 6-1 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Sunday afternoon.

In the opening period, Luc Wilson began the scoring just over eight minutes in. The Duncan product shovelled the puck past Jack McGovern to give the Capitals the lead. Not even two minutes, later, it was Wilson again scoring as he redirected a point shot from Johnny Howie that went over the shoulder of McGovern to double Cowichan Valley’s lead. The Capitals took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room after the opening frame.

1:21 into the second, it was once again Wilson who fired a shot past McGovern to put the Spruce Kings down by three. The Spruce Kings did get one back, as the Captain Nolan Welsh got the puck off a shot attempt from Amran Bhabra, that found its way to Welshs’ tape and deposited the puck past Zach Borgiel to get Prince George on the board. After the Welsh marker, the Capitals began to pour it on. Oliver Gauthier fired a puck on a 2 on 1 on the glove side of McGovern to regain the Capitals three goal lead. Not even two minutes later, Matthew Crasa went short side on McGovern to make it 5-1, and then two minutes after that, Zack Brooks shovelled a puck underneath the Spruce King goaltender and in the net to make it 6-1 for Cowichan. Jett Alexander came on in relief to stop the bleeding.

In the final frame, Alexander shut the door all period keeping the game at 6-1. No goal scoring came from either side in the final frame, as the Cowichan Valley Capitals skate to a 6-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Next up for Prince George are a pair of home games at the RMCA, where the Spruce Kings will host the Langley Rivermen this upcoming Friday and Saturday. Both game times are slated for 7:00 puck drops.
