Woodside Shines With 24 Saves as Spruce Kings Defeat West Kelowna 3-1

WEST KELOWNA, BC – Corey Cunningham scored his 22nd of the season and his fifth goal in four games, and Carter Woodside made 24 saves to give the Spruce Kings a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.

 

1st Period:

PG: Corey Cunningham got the puck on the power-play after an Evan Orr point shot. Cunningham was able to get the rebound and fire it past Warriors goaltender Johnny Derrick to give the Spruce Kings the lead. Evan Orr and Haydn Delorme were credited with the helpers at 5:01 of the first.

2nd Period:

 

WK: At 5:20 of the second, Brendan Pigeon got a feed from Tyler Cristall and slid through the legs of Woodside to tie the game up at one. Cristall and John Evans had the assists on Pigeon’s 7th of the season.

 

PG: Off a lucky bounce off the end boards, the puck shot right to forward Mason Reeves in the high slot and hammered a slap shot top corner on Derrick to give the Spruce Kings a 2-1 lead. Reeves 3rd of the year came unassisted just over a minute after the Pigeon tally.

 

SHOTS: 10-5 Prince George

 

 

3rd Period:

 

PG: With the net empty, Kolton Cousins got the puck at centre and was able to fire it into the open cage and give the Spruce Kings a 3-1 lead. Fin Williams and Colton Cameron had the helpers on Cousins’ 4th of the year. The tally came at 18:50 of the third.
