Spruce Kings Trade Corey Cunningham To Trail Smoke Eaters

PRINCE GEORGE BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded F Corey Cunningham (’01) to the Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for future considerations.

“Corey and his family have been with us for four seasons and have all been tremendous in their time with us. Corey is the last remaining player in the organization from our Championship team in 2019. Combined with the fact that he’s a local player, today is a difficult day,” said GM Mike Hawes. After some discussions between myself and Corey it was mutually decided that it would be best for Corey to play this season away from Prince George to help him prepare for life in NCAA hockey at Merrimack University the following season. Any time a player in Corey’s position, who has been with us for four seasons, comes forward and proposes this idea, I am going to respect and honor the decision. It is very difficult for any player to play five seasons on one junior team and in one community especially when it’s your hometown. Corey and I had some good discussions, and both agreed that Corey’s idea to play away from Prince George in his final season of junior hockey made the most sense. Corey will always have a special place in the history of the Spruce Kings, and we were fortunate to have him with us for four seasons. We wish him nothing but success this season and with his hockey career and in life moving forward.”

Through four years with the Prince George Spruce Kings, Cunningham finished with 191 games played (including playoffs) with 45 goals and 40 assists. The Prince George product was a member of the Fred Page Cup and Doyle Cup Championship run in the 2018-19 season. The Spruce Kings organization would like to thank Corey for everything he has in done the community with grace and class. The Spruce Kings wish Corey nothing but the best in his future!
