Spruce Kings scrape out a point in Powell River

The Prince George Spruce Kings kicked off a three-game road trip on Vancouver Island with a 3-3 tie against the Powell River Kings.

Friday’s royal matchup began with the Spruce Kings jumping out to a 1-0 lead after the first period courtesy of Ethan de Jong.

In the second, both teams opened things up starting with a Chong Min Lee marker that was setup by Kyle Johnson and Shawn Kennedy.

Powell River would answer back later in the period as Carter Turnbull notched one past goaltender Evan DeBrowuer.

The Kings continued to crank up the heat in the third period thanks to Turnbull’s second of the game on the power-play making it a 2-2 contest.

Johnson put the Spruce Kings back in front on the man advantage, putting home a Jarod Hovde pass through Kings netminder Mitch Adamyk.

Ben Berard responded less than 30 seconds later for Powell River, putting home the Kings third power-play goal of the game.

Overtime solved nothing as both teams were forced to take a point.

Prince George moves back into a first place tie in the Mainland Division with the Langley Rivermen who were idle.

The Spruce Kings continue their road swing on Saturday against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
