The Prince George Spruce Kings kicked off the 2024-2025 BCHL Season with a 4-1 victory over the Surrey Eagles on Friday night in Surrey.
The Spruce Kings got on the board early as Cooper Williams scored his first in the BCHL at 1:13 by deflecting an Aidan Souligny point shot past Jaiden Sharma. Brogan McNeil drew the second assist.
The period would end that way with the Eagles holding an 11-4 shots on goal edge.
The lead would double to 2-0 at 7:32 as Souligny got his first BCHL goal on a wrist shot from the left circle, beating Sharma off a pass from Trent Ballentyne and Kazumo Sasaki.
Williams got his second of the night with under five minutes to go in the 2nd, as he picked up his own rebound and maneuvered around Sharma to make it 3-0. The play was generated by a slick move from Jayden Connors off a pass from Evan Bellamy.
Prince George held a 23-18 lead in shots after a 19-7 advantage in the frame.
The Eagles would get one back on the power play with 5:48 to go as Brandon Gill tucked one over the pad of Carter Wishart, who finished the night with 30 saves for the 2nd Star.
Sasaki would put away an empty netter off a blocked shot from Bellamy with just 17 seconds left to seal the victory.
