Spruce Kings Defeat Merritt 6-4

The Prince George Spruce Kings moved to 5-1 on the BCHL season with a 6-4 victory over the Merritt Centennials at Kopar Memorial Arena.

Jake Schneider got the home team on the board early in the first period with a marker just 1:52 into the frame. John Herrington drew the lone assist.

The lead widened to 2-0 when Charlie Banquier threw a shot on goal after the puck came free to him at the top of the circle and it beat Hayden Dunford as Schneider picked up his second point of the night and Adam Mendelson drew the second assist.

A power-play goal from Linden Makow made it 3-0 just 12:06 in off a beautiful pass from Luca Primerano as he sent it cross-crease for a tap-in.

In the middle frame, Evan Fedele was able to put one through Dunford on a breakaway at 5:53, as Makow sent him in all alone. Jack Stockfish had the second assist as he pushed it forward to Makow.

The Centennials got one back from Jackson Krill at 6:45, but Primerano’s 1st BCHL goal restated 4 goal lead with 90 seconds left in the period as he deflected a Banquier point shot.

Merritt would get within 3 goals with 5:16 remaining in the period, before Krill’s second of the night made it 5-3.

Makow got his second of the night into an empty net with 1:06 to go to make it 6-3.

The game ended 6-4 with Jaxson Murray scoring at 19:58.
