PHOTO: Garrett James

CHILLIWACK BC – Linden Makow, Christian Buono, Hunor Torzsok, Rowan Miller, and Mason Waite all found the back of the net, as the Spruce Kings got back in the win column defeating the Merritt Centennials by a 5-1 score. The Spruce Kings now improve their record in the pod to 12-5-1, and now leapfrog the Chilliwack Chiefs for top spot in the Chilliwack pod by one point.

1st Period:

PG: In the opening frame, it was a great play by Hunor Torzsok to spot Linden Makow at the right wing and Makow ripped it glove side and top corner past Josh Dias to give the Spruce Kings a 1-0 lead. Makow’s second in the pod was assisted by both Torzsok and Zach Gabruch at 7:12.

PG: 13 seconds later, a point shot from Connor Elliott found its way through traffic and the puck was redirected by Christian Buono and past Dias to give the Spruce Kings a 2-0 lead in the blink of an eye. Buono’s pod leading 12th goal was assisted by both Elliott and Corey Cunningham at 7:25.

PG: In the final minutes of the period, similar to the Buono marker, it was a point shot from Mason Waite that was tipped in front by Hunor Torzsok and past Dias to put the Spruce Kings up 3-0 in the first. Torzsok’s power-play goal and second in the pod was assisted by both Waite and John Herrington at 18:30.

2nd Period:

PG: 1:42 into the period on a Spruce Kings power-play, a Nick Rheaume shot found its way past Josh Dias and the puck was sitting on the goal line and it was mashed home by Rowan Miller to up the Spruce Kings lead to 4-0. Miller’s power-play tally and fifth in the pod was assisted by Rheaume and Amran Bhabra.

PG: On a delayed penalty call, the Spruce Kings were all sorts of buzzing in the attacking zone and were able to add to the lead. A great feed from Christian Buono found Mason Waite all alone at the right circle and rifled home a one-timer past Dias to make it 5-0 Spruce Kings. Waite’s third in the pod had the helpers credited to both Waite and Nick Rhéaume at 6:12.
