Ryder Shea made 37 saves in the Alberni Valley net as the Bulldogs knocked off the Prince George Spruce Kings 4-2 on Friday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
The opening frame saw the teams trading goals through the frame, as the Bulldogs got the scoring going at 6:03 as Teague McAllister deflected one upstairs past Ryder Green off a Wyatt Davis point shot.
Prince George responded at 9:01 as Carter Hesselgrave split the defense off a pass from Matic Perčič and River Arnason and slipped the perfect shot past Shea to tie the game.
McAllister scored his second of the night just 35 seconds later to give the Bulldogs the lead back.
Spencer Masters snapped one past Shea at 15:19 off a pass from Kazumo Sasaki. It was Sasaki who stayed onside to receive a high aerial pass from Marcus Lougheed, then outwaited the Alberni Valley defenders setting up in the slot to find Masters coming off the bench.
Alberni Valley responded just 1:42 after as Kai Matthew scored his 8th of the season off a rebound in tight.
There was no scoring in the middle frame as both netminders stood tall, and then Samuel Léonard gave the Bulldogs some insurance just 2:51 into the 3rd period as he eluded detection from the Spruce Kings defense to receive a pass from Davis and beat Green.
The Spruce Kings fired 14 shots on goal in the final frame, and Shea was equal to the task, adding some additional shot blocks to finish off the game.
Final Shots were 39-26 Prince George.
The two teams battle again Saturday night at 6:00 pm at Kopar Memorial Arena. Tickets are available here: https://www.showpass.com/pgsk1108alberni/
