Cameron Using Off Time Wisely | Spruce Kings Off-Season Q & A

PRINCE GEORGE B.C. – With the Spruce Kings season coming to a close nearly a month and a half ago, the team has had some time to reflect on the 2019-20 season. For defenceman and  Spruce Kings plus minus winner Colton Cameron, he has been using his time wisely and we also reflect on the season that was in the first Spruce Kings Q & A of the offseason!

Cole Waldie: Well Colton, how have things been with you since the end of the season and how has the weather been down south?

Colton Cameron: Things have been good! The weather has been great at home. Very sunny and warm, however,  it is supposed to rain for the rest of the week.

Cole Waldie: Obviously a lot of down time for everyone, so I have to ask you, what has been the best show/movie you have seen on Netflix during this Quarantine?

Colton Cameron: My favourite Netflix series during this self-isolation has to be Tiger King. Every episode you think it cannot get crazier but then it does.

Cole Waldie: I am assuming it must be a bit of a hurdle during this pandemic with no ice or gyms available, what have you been doing to get in shape for next season with such limited access?

Colton Cameron: Having limited space to workout is definitely challenging but luckily, I have just enough equipment and space to get some workouts in (at home). I’ve also been shooting pucks in the backyard to work on my shot. But I’m missing being on the ice for sure.

Cole Waldie: This season was you first full year at the Junior A level. What are some reflections you had from the 2019-20 campaign?

Colton Cameron: My first year as a Spruce King and playing a full year of Junior A was amazing. Prince George is a great town to be playing in, and the community is fantastic. I am very grateful to be playing for the Spruce Kings as they are a great organization that is very good to its players. The league is so much fun to play in and the level of competition is great. What helps making it fun is the great coaching staff and players, and of course our play by play announcer is the best in the league also 😉.

Cole Waldie: There were a lot of fantastic memories and moments from the 2019-20 season, what was your favourite of the year?

Colton Cameron: My favourite moment of the season was the five-game road trip in November. Being with the boys for a long road trip definitely got us closer as a team. Also getting that win in Penticton definitely made it better.

Cole Waldie: You played in some big games and in big moments this year. How important do you think that was with it being in your first year and now having that experience moving forward?

Colton Cameron: Being able to play in big moments in some big games in my first year definitely helped with my confidence. Now moving into next year, I’ll have that same confidence and I will be more prepared to be put into similar positions.

Cole Waldie: Last thing for you, there will be a good amount of returning faces for next year. What do you like about this group moving forward?

Colton Cameron: With many teammates returning, I am looking forward to the chemistry we will have at the start of the season. Last year, there were a lot of new players, so we had to get to know each other, whereas this upcoming year we will be already starting with a strong bond. I think that will help to make us more successful.
