  1. US

The Spruce Kings are coming off a 5-2 victory on home ice against the West Kelowna Warriors. Prince George’s win came in clutch, snapping a five-game losing streak, and to get a step in the right direction heading into a lengthy road trip. Nick Poisson had two goals in the victory, and said Saturday night’s win was key for the team’s confidence,

“I thought in those five games, we could have easily won two or three of them, but it was really good to get that win under our belt heading into our road trip” says Poisson.

THEM

The Bulldogs are coming off of a 5-2 victory against the Trail Smoke Eaters. Leading point getter and reigning BCHL Player of the Week Mitch Deelstra had a three-point night in a winning effort for the Bulldogs. Goaltender Jackson Glassford got the win in goal, making 30 saves.

Due to the Ammonia leak in Port Alberni, the Bulldogs have been forced to play at some different venues around the North Island. Tonight’s game will be played at Oceanside Place in Parksville.

  1. US VS THEM

This is the second and final meeting between the Bulldogs and Spruce Kings. The Spruce Kings drew first blood, by thumping Alberni 8-2 back in September at the RMCA. Nick Poisson had a four-point night, while Corey Cunningham and Brendan Hill both had three point games.

  1. THIS AND THAT

THIS: Following tonight’s game with the Bulldogs, the Spruce Kings wrap up their island portion of the road trip tomorrow against the Nanaimo Clippers. That one is slated for a 7:00 PM puck drop at the Frank Crane Arena. THAT: Forward Nick Poisson is now tied for the goal scoring lead with Preston Brodziak. Both forwards now have nine goals on the season.

  1. PLAYERS TO WATCH

SPRUCE KINGS (F) ANDREW SEAMAN

Seaman has been all over the ice as of late. The Winnetka, IL native played on the top line with Nick Poisson and Nolan Welsh on Saturday night, and Seaman seemed like he fit right in. The forward is coming off two points in his last two games and hopes to build off that tonight.

BULLDOGS – (F) MITCH DEELSTRA

The reigning BCHL Player of the Week has had a season to remember thus far. Deelstra seems to make things happen every single time he steps on the ice and is an offensive weapon for Alberni Valley.
