1. US

The Spruce Kings are coming off a split at the BCHL Showcase Festival presented by Bauer in Penticton. The Spruce Kings were 3-2 winners over the West Kelowna Warriors, and falling to the Trail Smoke Eaters on the following day by a 7-4 score. Corey Cunningham had a goal and an assist in the setback, as the forward now has 11 points in 8 games played this season. Recently acquired forward Jaxon Steele will make his debut tonight wearing #23 for Prince George.

“I am pretty excited. I am happy to be in the BCHL in Prince George” said Steele. “I wasn’t sure where I was going to go, but I am very glad with this spot”.

 

2. THEM

The Nanaimo Clippers are coming off a 3-0 victory over the Powell River Kings last Sunday afternoon. Reigning BCHL player of the week Ethan Scardina had two goals in the Clippers win including the game winning goal. Goaltender Jordan Naylor got the win in goal with a 26 save shutout. Powell River Kings goaltender Mateo Paler-Chow made 33 saves on 36 shots in the loss.

 

3. US vs. THEM

This if the first of two matchup’s between the Spruce Kings and Clippers. These two teams played each other two times a season ago with the Spruce Kings winning 1 of the two while outscoring the Clippers 7-6. This is a mainland vs. island matchup. The Spruce Kings finished 4-3-1 against island opponents last season.

4. THIS AND THAT

THIS: Following tonight’s game with the Clippers, the Spruce Kings will be right back at again tomorrow night against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. This will be the second game of a 4 game home stand at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. Once the home-stand concludes next weekend, the Spruce Kings head on the road for the island road trip. THAT: Fin Williams and Chong Min Lee have combined for 12 goals in the Spruce Kings first 11 games of the season.

 

5. PLAYERS TO WATCH

Spruce Kings: F Preston Brodziak

Brodziak is coming off an impressive weekend, where the 20-year-old had two goals in the two games against West Kelowna and Trail.

Clippers: F Ethan Scardina

The captain and reigning player of the week is coming off nine points in his last three games and remains one of the Clippers’ biggest threats on offence.
