The Prince George Spruce Kings got goals from five different players as they knocked off the Powell River Kings 5-1 on Saturday night as Cody Arnold picked up his first BCHL victory with a 20-save performance.
Carter Hesselgrave suited up for his 150th BCHL Regular Season game and got the Spruce Kings on the board as Dracen Campbell broke up a play at the blue line and sent Mason Loewen in with Hesselgrave on a 2 on 1. Loewen moved around the defender and sent it across to Hesselgrave who was initially stopped, but then put the rebound upstairs for his 20th of the season.
Loewen would get into the scoring act of his own at 14:43 after Trent LeDrew broke up a Powell River chance and Tai Ushio sent Loewen in all alone as he slid a backhand shot between the legs of Devin Peck to make it 2-0.
Prince George scored twice in seven seconds while playing four on four in the opening two minutes of the second period.
First, Ben Vreugdenhil battled for the puck and popped it out to Ryan Wachtel who was stopped by Peck but put the rebound home to make it 3-0.
Off the next faceoff, Lucas Busch found Tai Ushio, who drove the net on the left side and went across the top of the crease, sliding it past Peck.
Nick Bianchi put home his 5th of the season at 5:41 of the 3rd as Wachtel sent Vreugdenhil in on a 2 on 1 with Bianchi. Once more, Peck made the initial save but Bianchi was able to put the rebound away to make it 5-0.
Josh Wiebe spoiled Cody Arnold’s shutout with 7:21 remaining.
Prince George remains at home for another weekend as they welcome the Surrey Eagles to Kopar Memorial Arena next Friday and Saturday.
