Sam De Melo

Sam De Melo

Position: Defenseman

DOB: March 13th 1998

Hometown: Kelowna, BC

Shoots: Right

Acquired in the off-season from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, De Melo has seen a huge jump in performance from last season. With the Silverbacks, De Melo struggled through some injuries, and was only able to play 26 games. In that time he put up three assists and four penalty minutes.

This year with Prince George De Melo has by far surpassed that, with two goals and seven assists in 28 games. He scored his first BCHL goal down in Coquitlam with his family in attendance. One of Sam’s best skills is his shot blocking, and has not been afraid this season to make the goalie’s job easier. The 5’9″ defenseman is the Spruce Kings smallest player on the blue line, but has been a staple on the penalty kill since early this season.

De Melo is an alumni of the Pursuit of Excellence program along with fellow teammate Jarod Hovde.
