Named the rookie of the year last season, Matt Stief got a little bit of a later start after begining with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL. Stief rejoined the team in early October, and was one of the most counted on offensive weapons in the lineup. After Adam Brubacher  was traded in January, even more weight was placed on Stief’s shoulders to put up points. He also received an “A” following the trade deadline.

In 51 games Stief had 43 points and was the only blueliner in the the BCHL to lead his team in points.  Last season Stief had 33 points in seven more games. At the team awards banquet at the end of the season, the Florida native was also named the team’s best defenceman. A quarterback on the power play, Stief was tied for 11th in the league with 18 assists on the man advantage.

Announced on April 7th, 2016, Stief committed to the Canisius College Golden Griffins. The Spruce Kings wish Matt the best in his future hockey and life endeavors.
