Spruce Kings Trade Williams To Penticton

PRINCE GEORGE BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded forward Finlay Williams (’03) to the Penticton Vees in exchange for future considerations.

“Shortly after last season ended for us, Fin’s advisor informed me that Fin is requesting a trade to Penticton” says GM Mike Hawes. “This certainly was surprising to me and the rest of the organization based on the opportunities we had provided Fin as a 15 year old affiliate player during our long playoff run two seasons ago and last season as a 16 year old player that played in a lot of minutes of all situations. I was told that a lot of Fin’s focus for this upcoming season will be on the NHL draft and he feels his chances of getting drafted are better in Penticton based largely on the fact that they are scheduled to host the National Championship this season. It took some time, but Fred (Fred Harbinson, Head Coach and General Manager of Penticton) and I were able to reach an agreement”.

Williams finished the 2019-20 campaign with 11 goals, and 20 assists in 40 games played. Williams also had 2 goals and 1 assist in 12 playoff games with the club. The 17-year-old from North Vancouver BC is also committed to play NCAA Division 1 Hockey at the University of Michigan.

Prior to joining the Spruce Kings, Williams spent the 2018-19 campaign with the Burnaby Winter Club of the CSSHL, where he had 42 points in 32 games. Williams also played for Team British Columbia at the Canada Winter Games in Regina in 2019.

“Fin is a great kid and I wish him nothing but success” added Hawes. “That being said we want to ensure that all of our players are committed 100% to the program”.
