Spruce Kings smoke out road win in Trail

Some timely offense and some great saves from Evan DeBrouwer led the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 3-1 victory in Trail on Friday against the Smoke Eaters.

After a scoreless first period, the Smoke Eaters lit the lamp first courtesy of Andre Ghantous who notched his 8th of the season finishing off a Ethan Martini feed for a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Despite being outshot 22-14, the Spruce Kings banded together with three consecutive goals in the third period with the game-tying marker coming off the stick of Dustin Manz.

About three minutes later, Patrick Cozzi potted the game-winner thanks to a pass from Ethan de Jong making it 2-1 with half a period left.

De Jong recorded the insurance marker six minutes later putting another past Trail goaltender Brandon Wells.

Both teams went a combined 0-10 on the power-play.

Prince George continues its three game road trip Saturday in Wenatchee against the Wild.

The Spruce Kings then wrap up the trip Sunday afternoon against the West Kelowna Warriors.
