Spruce Kings slip past Chiefs in Chilliwack

The Chilliwack Chiefs still can’t solve the riddle that is the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The visitors found a way to sting the RBC Cup hosts once again winning by a 2-1 score on Friday.

Ben Brar opened the scoring late in the opening frame beating Chiefs goalie Daniel Chernard for a 1-0 advantage.

Chilliwack evened the score in the middle frame thanks to courtesy Will Calverly who slipped one past Spruce Kings netminder Evan DeBrouwer tying the game after 40 minutes.

In the third, Dustin Manz proved to be clutch once again netting the winning goal with less than four minutes remaining.

The Spruce Kings improve to 31-17-4-4 on the season while the Chiefs fall to 26-25-3-3.

The playoff picture became a little clearer after the conclusion of play on Friday as the Langley Rivermen tied the Coquitlam Express 2-2 while the Surrey Eagles blew a three-goal lead in Nanaimo and fell to the Clippers 4-3 in double overtime.

The Rivermen are three points up on the Chiefs with a game in hand and have guaranteed themselves a second or third place finish.

Prince George plays Chilliwack again tomorrow at 7 PM.

Langley hosts the Merritt Centennials on Saturday and Surrey plays game two of its island road trip in Duncan against Cowichan Valley.
