The Prince George Spruce Kings couldn’t beat Quentin Miller as the Chilliwack Chiefs won Game 7 on Tuesday night by a 4-0 score, advancing to the second round and ending the Spruce Kings season.
After a scoreless first period which saw the Chiefs out-shoot the Spruce Kings 16-6, Caleb Elfering snapped one home from the right circle to open the scoring after the Chiefs won an attacking zone faceoff and controlled the puck down low.
Prince George couldn’t score on the game’s lone power play halfway through the frame, then Adam Boatter made it 2-0 at 15:59 as he tucked one over the line from the side of the goal after Nico Grabas knocked it down in front.
Elfering got his second of the night at 1:59 of the third period, as he pushed one over the line with Charles Gravel on his back after a scramble at the side of the net.
With the Spruce Kings desperate for offense, Gravel went to the bench with 4:04 remaining, but Nathan Morin scored into the empty net at 17:03 to make it 4-0 and seal the game. Gravel made 39 saves in the loss.
The game marked the final Junior hockey games for Gravel, Linden Makow, Owen Goodbrand, Maks Perčič, Trent Ballentyne, Will Moore, and Nicolas Papineau.
The Spruce Kings made the playoffs on the last day of the regular season, after being down eight points in the standings on February 1st. The Chiefs finished 27 points higher in the standings, and the home team won all seven games of the series.
