Spruce Kings finish Island road swing with win and OT loss

The Prince George Spruce Kings continued to be road warriors by finishing up another three games in three days stretch on Vancouver Island.

Following a convincing 3-0 victory on Friday over the Powell River Kings, Prince George picked up a hard-fought 2-1 win in Alberni Valley Saturday night before wrapping up the road swing with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Nanaimo Clippers.

The contest against the Bulldogs saw Ben Brar continue his scoring ways, while Nic Poisson also potted his seventh of the season past goaltender John Hawthorne.

Logan Neaton picked up the 25 save victory in goal for the Spruce Kings.

The Sunday matinee versus the Clippers saw Prince George dominate much of the contest.

Ben Poisson put the Spruce Kings on the scoreboard with his tenth of the BCHL season making it 1-0 after 20 minutes.

However, the Clippers stormed back in the middle frame with a pair of goals courtesy of Jonathan Stein and Thomas Samuelsen who beat Bradley Cooper who started in net during the final leg of the trip.

Tyler Schleppe tied up the score at 2-2 early in the third period beating Nanaimo goalkeeper Jordan Naylor.

The game would stayed tied until the extra frame when Gunnar Wegleitner picked up his eight of the season at 4:39 of overtime to complete the upset.

Prince George is now 17-7-0-1 on the season and are two points back of the Chilliwack Chiefs for top spot in the Mainland Division.

The Chiefs lost 4-1 to Alberni Valley on Sunday.

The Spruce Kings return home to face the Trail Smoke Eaters on Wednesday at 7 PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
