Spruce Kings fill the net with pucks against Surrey to kick off round 2

Different team, same result !

The Prince George Spruce Kings showed no mercy on the Surrey Eagles Friday night cruising to a 9-1 on Friday to kick off their best-of-seven second round series.

Liam Watson Brawn was an absolute beast on the backend with team-high four points with a pair of first period goals along with two assists.

After leading 2-1 after 20 minutes, captain Kyle Johnson put the team on his back and lit the lamp twice in the middle frame.

The Spruce Kings scored early and often in the third finding the back of the net five more times, chasing Eagles goaltender Mario Cavaliere.

Patrick Cozzi had a goal and two assists in the victory who says starting fast was key.

“They play a little bit different than the Chiefs, they are really a more offensive team and if we play defence the offense will come and we played really good defensively.”

The Eagles came in to round two banged up on the blueline as they were without Perry Winfree, Cory Babichuk and Ty Schultz who has yet to play a game all season.

The Spruce Kings also shut down the explosive Surrey trio of Johnny Wesley, Ty Westgard and Desi Burgart limiting them to a pair of assists in game 1.

“We definitely want to keep playing in our o-zone, just grind them down and make them tired so when the third period rolls around we’re still fresh,” added Cozzi.

The Spruce Kings lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 with game two set for Saturday at 7 PM from the RMCA.
