Spruce Kings fall 6-2 to Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK B.C. | Tonight was not the Prince George Spruce Kings night, as they fell to the Chilliwack Chiefs 6-2.

92 seconds into the game, the Chiefs started the scoring as Arlo Merritt put the puck past Jett Alexander on a back door feed courtesy of Peter Reynolds to make it 1-0. After both clubs exchanged shots on goal as well as some power-plays, it took until 18:22 of the opening frame as Brett Pfoh forced a turnover and made no mistake on a breakaway going blocker side on Mathieu Caron to knot the game up at one.

In the second period, it was the Chiefs again scoring early. Ethan Bowen put the puck past Jett Alexander glove side to regain the Chiefs lead. It did not take long for the Spruce Kings to once again find the equalizer. At 6:54, Preston Brodziak whacked home a rebound off a great setup from both Tom Richter and Evan Orr to tie the game at two. Three minutes later, it was Bowen again who scored his second of the night to give the Chiefs the lead once again. After Bowen’s second goal, the Chiefs didn’t look back. Peter Reynolds scored on the power play, that marker coming at 17:08 of the second to put Chilliwack up 4-2.

In the third, Bowen scored his hat trick goal 7:11 into the period, that one coming on the man advantage, and then at 9:56, Arlo Merritt put home his second of the night, extending the lead to 6-2, which was more than enough for the home team.

Next up for the Spruce Kings is a date with the Langley Rivermen at the George Preston Rec Centre.
