Spruce Kings Fall 4-1 in Powell River

POWELL RIVER B.C.- Nick Poisson’s lone goal in the opening frame for the Prince George Spruce Kings was not enough, as PG fell 4-1 to the Powell River Kings.

In a fast paced opening frame, and both teams had their fair share of chances. It took until 10:38 right after the media timeout, as Nick Poisson buried the games first goal on the backhand to give the Spruce Kings the lead. After the Poisson marker, Powell River began to press, but Jett Alexander stopped all 11 shots he faced in the opening frame.

In the second, Powell River found the equalizer. Former Chilliwack Chief Jacob Slipec spun and turned and fired the puck over the shoulder of Alexander to tie the game up at one. It was a fairly even period, but both goaltenders were solid in the second frame.

In the final frame, Powell River began to execute. On their first man advantage of the game, Jack Brackett put the puck past Alexander at 6:59 to give the Kings their first lead of the night. It was then at 17:54, where forward Rowan Miller scored a weird one as the Scottsdale, AZ product had a breakaway and as he shot the puck, his stick broke, but the puck still managed its way to sneak by Alexander to give the Kings a two goal lead. Powell River ended up putting scoring an empty netter a few moments later from Ben Wozney to make it 4-1 Powell River.

The Kings snap their 7 game losing skid and now improve to 8-10-0-0 on the year, while the Spruce Kings drop their second in a row, falling to 5-8-2-1.
