Spruce Kings fail to bottle up the Capitals in Cowichan

A slow start proved costly for the Prince George Spruce Kings as they fell 5-2 on Sunday to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Despite outshooting the Caps 13-3 in the opening period, Prince George found themselves down 1-0 after 20 minutes of play thanks to a marker by Azzard Tinling who got it past Bradley Cooper.

Dylan Anhorn tied it up at one apiece early in the middle frame after completing a three-way scoring sequence on the power-play from Brady Bjork and Nolan Welsh.

The deadlock wouldn’t last however, as Ty Pochipinski and Nicholas Wilson handcuffed Cooper in a span of less than four minutes giving the Capitals a 3-1 advantage at the end of the second period.

Evan DeBrouwer came on in relief during the third stanza but it wasn’t enough as Ethan Scradina notched a pair to ice the win for Cowichan.

Patrick Cozzi potted the final goal for the Spruce Kings.

Cowichan outshot Prince George 27-25 overall.

The Spruce Kings enter the Christmas break a point back of the Langley Rivermen for the Mainland Division lead.

Both teams will face each other after the holiday break on December 29 and 30 at 7 PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
