The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped their third straight contest by a 6-2 score to the Coquitlam Express on Saturday night in Prince George.
James Shannon got the Express on the board at 8:40 of the opening period as a centering pass hit a Spruce Kings skate and landed on his stick, and he beat Ryder Green to make it 1-0. Andrej Kovacevic and Joseph Odyniec drew the assists.
Just under four minutes later, Thomas Zocco jumped on a miffed pass from the Spruce Kings defense and went in all alone to beat Green and make it 2-0 after one period.
The Spruce Kings got on the board at 6:04 of the middle frame as Ty Paisley slapped a one-timer home on the power play. It was the Spruce Kings first power-play goal in 16 tries. Aidan Souligny and Evan Bellamy drew the assists.
Just 1:36 later, Cale Colwell beat a screened Green to make it 3-1 off a faceoff win from Trip Pendy.
The Express added a power-play goal at 15:43 when Kovacevic beat Green from between the circles off a pass from Nick Wellenreiter. David Brandes drew the other assist.
12 seconds after that goal, Liam Loughery’s point shot made its way past Green with Pendy and Colwell drawing the assist, taking the wind completely out of the Spruce Kings crowd.
In the third, Evan Bellamy would score his first BCHL goal on the power play as he hammered a shot past goaltender Eric Young to make it 5-2.
Nate Crema finished the scoring from Wellenreiter and Zocco at 9:28.
