A dominant third-period performance propelled the Okotoks Oilers to a 5-2 road victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday night. The Oilers broke open a tight contest with three unanswered goals in the final frame, handing the Spruce Kings the loss.
The Spruce Kings drew first blood in the opening period, with Tai Ushio scoring at the 8:00 mark. However, the Oilers quickly answered back on the man-advantage, as Hunter Sawka netted a power-play goal at 13:45 to send the teams into the intermission tied at one.
The second period saw the Oilers take their first lead when Teo Pisani connected for another power-play tally at 8:31.
Prince George refused to quit, tying the game early in the third period thanks to a power-play goal from Matic Perčič at 4:39.
That was as close as the Spruce Kings would get, as the Okotoks offense ignited for the final push. Holden Pajor scored the crucial go-ahead goal at 11:34, and just under a minute later, Jamie Hikida provided key insurance, scoring at 12:26. Pajor then sealed the victory, netting his second goal of the night, an empty-netter, at 18:34 to make the final score 5-2.
The Spruce Kings welcome the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday October 3rd and Saturday October 4th to the Kopar Memorial Arena.
