Spruce Kings collect three out of four points in Chilliwack

Dustin Manz  put the Prince George Spruce Kings on his back in a big way.

The 19-year-old American forward collected three goals and one assist over the weekend as the Spruce Kings picked up a win and a shootout loss in Chilliwack against the Chiefs.

During Saturday’s 6-3 victory over the hosts, Manz led the way offensively with a pair of goals and a helper as Prince George lit the lamp six times on just 30 shots.

The Spruce Kings carried leads of 2-0 and 4-1 at the intermission breaks as Sean Donaldson, Ben Brar and Ben Poisson also lit the lamp in the opening 40 minutes.

Manz scored his second of the night in the third period, while Nolan Welsh scored into the empty net.

Logan Neaton made 27 saves in goal.

Friday’s matchup saw the Chiefs comeback from a 2-0 deficit to up end the visitors 3-2.

Manz and Nic Poisson scored in defeat for the Spruce Kings.

Chilliwack went two-for-four on the power-play and Brett Willits scored the shootout winner past Neaton.

The weekend result leaves Prince George a single point back of the Chiefs for the Mainland Division lead with a game in hand.

The Spruce Kings return to action on Wednesday against the Merritt Centennials at 7 PM from the RMCA.
