Spruce Kings Bounce Express

Sometimes you need a bounce to extend a streak. The Prince George Spruce Kings got that bounce on Dylan Anhorn’s 3rd period goal to extend the Spruce Kings winning streak to seven games.

It took the Spruce Kings only 3 minutes and 50 seconds to get on the board in the first period, as Corey Cunningham buried one from a blocked shot in the slot for his second goal of the season.

Evan DeBrouwer made a big stop later in the frame with his left toe to keep the lead heading into the locker room after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Express came out with a little more energy in the opening few minutes, and were rewarded for it later, as Eric Linell’s 17th of the year was snapped past a surprised DeBrouwer at 7:57, off a Prince George turnover.

The Spruce Kings took the lead for good in the final frame, off one of the weirdest goals seen this season. While shorthanded, Dylan Anhorn fired one down the wall, which hit something on the boards and deflected towards the vacated goal as Brock Hamm went out to play the puck. Anhorn’s 3rd of the year came at 7:26.

The Express would pull their netminder Hamm with 1:47 to go in the 3rd period with the Spruce Kings shorthanded.

After a chance by the Express was deflected out of play, the Spruce Kings won the ensuing face-off as Ben Brar finished an empty netter from Dustin Manz and Ben Poisson.

With the win, the Spruce Kings remain within one point of division leading Langley, who blew out Chilliwack 5-1.

Prince George will take on Victoria Saturday night to continue their 3-game road trip. The Grizzlies were big winners Friday, defeating the Cowichan Valley Capitals 5-0. The Capitals will be the Spruce Kings Sunday opponent in Duncan.
