Spruce Kings battle for a point against Penticton

In a glorified goalie’s duel, the Prince George Spruce Kings found a way to earn a point on the road falling 2-1 in double overtime against the Penticton Vees.

The hard-fought decision kicked off a three-game, three day road swing for the Spruce Kings.

After both teams were shutout in the first two periods, Marcus Mitchell buried home his ninth of the season at 11:43 of the third period past Evan DeBrouwer to make it 1-0 for the Vees.

The lead wouldn’t last however, as Ben Brar found the back of the net against his old club potting him his 15th of the season from Liam Watson-Brawn and Ethan de Jong, solving Penticton netiminder Adam Scheel.

The rest of regulation and the first overtime period proved nothing, so we went to double overtime.

In the extra frame, Taylor Ward pounced on a blown defensive assignment by the Spruce Kings and potted the winner against DeBrouwer to secure the victory.

Prince George was outshot 32-27.

Even with the loss, the Spruce Kings pull to a within a point of the Mainland Division lead as the Langley Rivermen were idle on Friday.

The Vernon Vipers entertain the Spruce Kings on Saturday before wrapping on Sunday against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
