PRINCE GEORGE BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings have acquired D Ian Kern (’02) from the Powell River Kings in exchange for D Zach Gabruch (’01).

Kern, from Vancouver BC, spent the 2021 pod season on loan with the Surrey Eagles where he finished with four assists in 13 games played. The 6’4 205-pound defenceman spent the 2019-20 season with Powell River where he tallied one goal and five assists in in 54 games played. Kern also has seven BCHL playoff games under his belt. Prior to the BCHL, Kern was a member of the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the BC Major Midget League for two seasons (2017-18, 2018-19).

We’re excited to add Ian to our team. He’s a veteran player who will be leaned on in key situations for us. He’s also a great individual who will add some more leadership on and off the ice.” – GM Mike Hawes

The Spruce Kings would like to welcome Ian and his family to the organization and the city of Prince George!

The Spruce Kings would also like to thank Zach Gabruch for his contributions to the organization.
