PREVIEW: January 24th | Prince George Spruce Kings @ Surrey Eagles

Tonight, at the South Surrey Arena, the Prince George Spruce Kings take on their mainland rival Surrey Eagles in a busy night around the BCHL in one of the eight games on the BCHL schedule. The Spruce Kings have won six of their last nine and are within just four points of 4th place of the Mainland Division. The Eagles are coming off 4-3 OT loss to the Wenatchee Wild at the Town Toyota Centre in Wenatchee. The Eagles are 4-4-1-1 in their last 10 heading into tonight’s game.

Since joining the Spruce Kings, Carter Woodside has won 4 games, 3 of which have come in his last 4 appearances. Woodside, a product of Asquith, SK, sits with a 5-4 record in 12 games played, while sporting a 2.95 GAA and a .902 save percentage. Woodside has seen some time in the Western Hockey League prior to joining the Spruce Kings. Woodside made a start for the Regina Pats last season and was an emergency backup for the Prince George Cougars. Woodside actually also played a game as an AP with the Merritt Centennial earlier this season. And who did he get the win against? The Surrey Eagles.

Another recent acquisition was forward Mason Reeves. Reeves, 6’4 out of Toronto was acquired just over 2 weeks ago from the Brooks Bandits out of the AJHL. Reeves has two goals in 5 games so far with Prince George, one of which came this past Wednesday afternoon against the Coquitlam Express. Reeves had a brief stint with the Oakville Blades last season, that Blades team got to play in the National Jr A Challenge in Brooks. Since being traded from Brooks, this is the first time Reeves has ever been in British Columbia.

The Eagles acquired former Swift Current Bronco Reese Klassen and the 20 year old has been as advertised. He sits 3-1-1 in 5 starts, two wins coming against the Spruce Kings. The Cloverdale native’s two defeats have come at the hands of the Coquitlam Express and the Wenatchee Wild. Klassen has spent time with three different WHL teams throughout the course of his junior career including the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Spokane Chiefs, and the Swift Current Broncos. Since joining the Eagles, Klassen sports a 2.59 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
