Poisson’s game-winnger propels Spruce Kings to 2-1 over Langley

Ben Poisson came through in the clutch once again for the Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday, scoring the game-winning goal against the Langley Rivermen 2-1 at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

His blistering wrister went bar-down over the glove of goaltender Braedon Fleming sending the home crowd of 828 out to the exits on a happy note.

This was a rebound game according to the captain,  who fell  4-0 to Langley on Friday.

“The first game caught us a little by surprise as we turned over a few too many pucks and in this game, we knew what was coming and we did what we needed to do.”

“Yesterday came down to preparation and for this one we knew what we needed to do and it was more of a redemption game for us.”

Dustin Manz lit the lamp first for the Spruce Kings late in the second period, taking a 1-0 into the intermission.

Prince George outshot Langley 43-22 in the game and went 0-for-5 on the man-advantage.

Corey Cunningham and Dylan Anhorn exited the game after the first period due to injury.

Anhorn is expected to attend the Team Canada West Camp for the World Junior A Challenge, which begin on Monday.

With the win, Prince George pulls back in front of the Chilliwack Chiefs for the Mainland Division lead with a record of 21-8-1-2.

Both teams don’t play again until Wednesday when the Chiefs welcome Langley (2PM) and the Spruce Kings host the Vernon Vipers at 7 PM from the RMCA.
