Herrington Scores Twice, Spruce Kings Drop 5-3 Decision In West Kelowna

West Kelowna BC – John Herrington continued his offensive success scoring two goals, and Austin Fraser scored his first as a Spruce King, but it was all the Spruce Kings could muster offensively, falling 5-3 to the West Kelowna Warriors on Saturday night at Royal LePage place.

1st PERIOD:

 WK: 5:41 into the first period, it was a shot from captain Elan Bar Lev Wise who wristed a shot through traffic and was tipped in by Felix Trudeau to give the Warriors an early lead. Trudeau’s first of the season was assisted by both Bar Lev Wise and Riley Sharun.

PG: At the 12:05 mark of period one, the puck came in behind the goal and captain Kolton Cousins made a phenomenal no look pass from behind the goal and found John Herrington who deposited in tight on the glove side of Johnny Derrick, catching the goaltender looking the wrong way. Herrington’s third of the year had the lone helper going to Cousins.

2nd PERIOD:

PG: 1:24 into the period, the Spruce Kings found themselves shorthanded, but it was a great check from Nick Rhéaume who took the puck away and carried the puck into the offensive zone, and spotted John Herrington. Herrington absolutely rifled a wrister bar down on the glove side of Derrick to give the Spruce Kings a 2-1 lead. The short-handed goal and Herrington’s second of the night and fourth of the year had the lone assist to Rhéaume.

WK: Off an offensive zone faceoff, the puck came to Felix Trudeau at the right circle and he snuck a wrister through the legs of Aaron Trotter to tie the game at two. Trudeau’s second of the year and of the game was assisted by Elan Bar Lev Wise at 8:48.

WK: Just over a minute later, the puck came into a similar spot at the right circle and the puck was thrown to the goal by Chase Dafoe and the puck deflected off the shoulder of Trotter and in the back of the net to give West Kelowna the lead. Dafoe’s first of the season was assisted by Tyler Rubin at 9:58.

3rd PERIOD:

WK: 55 seconds into the period, Nick Roukounakis was able to get the puck in tight and slide it past Trotter to double the Warriors lead. Roukounakis’ first of the season was assisted by Alexi Van-Houtte Cachero and Marcus Joughin.

WK: Just over five minutes later, defence Tyler Rubin raced into the offensive zone and wheeled around the goal and slide it in on Trotter’s glove side to make it 5-2 Warriors. Rubin’s first of the season was assisted by both Brennan Nelson and Damon Jugnauth at 5:58.

PG: In the final minutes of the period on a PG man advantage, the puck came to Austin Fraser at the right circle and Fraser picked the top corner, glove side on Johnny Derrick to put the Spruce Kings within two. Fraser’s first of the season and as a Spruce King was assisted by both Amran Bhabra and Kilian McGregor-Bennett.
