First period explosion leads Spruce Kings over venom-less Vipers

Special teams may be considered a third of the game, but it sure came in handy for the Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday.

A three-for-six performance on the power-play led Prince George to a convincing 4-1 victory over the Vernon Vipers from Kal Tire Place.

The trio of Dustin Manz, Patrick Cozzi and Ben Brar tallied for the first three while 20-year-old defenceman Max Coyle added the exclamation point, which saw the Spruce Kings carry a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Vernon’s lone goal came in the third period from Teddy Wooding.

The Vipers outshot Prince George 26-22.

Former Spruce King Bradley Cooper was shelled for four goals on ten shots in the Viper net before being replaced by Aidan Porter.

Logan Neaton posted a 25-save victory for Prince George.

The three-game Okanagan road swing concludes tomorrow in West Kelowna against the Warriors at 12pm.
