Brar’s hot stick lifts Spruce Kings to victory over Coquitlam

It’s pretty hard to imagine of a hotter goal scorer in the BCHL than Ben Brar.

The 20-year-old forward for the Prince George Spruce Kings continued his stellar weekend with his second two-goal performance in as many nights helping them to a 3-0 victory over the Coquitlam Express on Saturday.

Brar scored a shorthanded goal late in the second and a power-play goal to end the game in the final period past Express netminder Kolby Matthews.

Prince George improves to a league-best 4-0-0-0 heading into next weekend’s BCHL Showcase.

“That’s what we wanted, we want to be one of the top teams and show that we are a force to be reckoned with so it sends a message but we’ve got a lot of work to do and the showcase is going to be one of our biggest tests,” said Dylan Anhorn.

The wins were especially sweet for ex-Coquitlam player Sam Kozlowski who was dealt to the Spruce Kings before the start of the season.

“It’s always nice when you get traded and you beat them on the ice, I think we have a great group of guys here and we’re just going to keep doing it.”

Kozlowski has notched two goals in his first four games with his new club and says the transition has been quite easy.

“It’s awesome playing with these guys they just make it easy for me there is a lot of depth on this team and the forwards are really strong and our defense core is very solid.”

Dustin Manz added a single of his own in the first period past Matthews.

Brad Cooper collected a 20-save shutout in this first start of the 2018-19 BCHL season.

The Spruce Kings begin the BCHL Showcase on Thursday at 1:30 PM against the West Kelowna Warriors.
