Manz Leads Spruce Kings to Game 1 Win

Dustin Manz was due for a breakout game.

The Vanderbilt, Michigan native scored a Natural Hat-Trick in Game 1 of the BCHL Mainland Division Final to help lead the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 7-0 victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday night at the Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.

After Ben Poisson opened the scoring with 3:08 to go in the first period on a deflection, Manz went to work, driving wide on the Chiefs defense and tucking one top corner on Daniel Chenard to give the Spruce Kings a 2-0 lead with 57 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

He’d start hot in the second period as well, scoring 58 seconds in with a beautiful backhand shot top shelf, before converting a shorthanded feed from Dylan Anhorn.

Nick Bochen would join the scoring party at 12:04 of the middle frame, chasing Chenard from the net after allowing 5 goals on 23 shots.

Anhorn would score a pair of goals 1:32 apart to make it 7-0 in the final minutes of the second period.

Nothing would happen in the third period, as the Chiefs weren’t able to create much offense as Logan Neaton finished with 19 saves and his first BCHL Playoff shutout.

Game 2 goes Saturday night in Chilliwack. Fans can listen in on 93.1 CFIS FM or online at www.cfisfm.ca
