  1. US

The Spruce Kings are coming off a 4-1 loss against the Powell River Kings at the Hap Parker Arena.

Nick Poisson had the lone goal in the loss, while Jett Alexander made 32 saves. Prince George played a very good two periods against Powell River. It was the third period, where things began to get away from them. Nolan Welsh continues to produce since being back in the line-up. The captain had another assist on Thursday night. Poisson says having Welsh’s presence back is crucial,

“Having Welshy back, being our leader, and captain is huge” says Poisson. “He is a guy who does a little bit of everything whether it is power-play, penalty kill, or 5 on 5, so it is really big for us moving forward”.

THEM

The Grizzlies are coming off a 3-2 overtime victory in Nanaimo against the Clippers last night. Edward Yan put home the overtime winner at 3:49 of the extra frame.

Grizzlies’ goaltender Blake Wood was busy in the win; making 41 saves on 43 shots.

Victoria now has won three of their last five coming into tonight’s clash with the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Offensively, the Grizzlies are led by Henri Schreifels who is averaging a point per game. The Agoura Hills, CA native has 18 points in 18 games coming into tonight’s game.

  1. US VS THEM

This is the second and final meeting between the Spruce Kings and Grizzlies. The last time these clubs met was September 13th where the Spruce Kings got the upper hand, defeating the Grizzlies 6-1. Prince George had five different goal scorers in that win.

  1. THIS AND THAT

THIS: Following tonight’s game with Victoria, the Spruce Kings will wrap up this three game island road trip in Duncan tomorrow afternoon against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. That one is scheduled for a 2:00 puck drop. THAT: Corey Cunningham currently sits second in the BCHL in power-play goals. The Spruce Kings power-play currently sits at 20%, good for 8th in the BCHL.

  1. PLAYERS TO WATCH

SPRUCE KINGS – (F) WIL KUSHNIRYK

Kushniryk played his first game as a Spruce King Thursday night, and seemed to fit right in from the get go. The 6’5 forward from Chilliwack does not mind to get gritty in the corners and use his size and weight to establish his presence on the ice.

 GRIZZLIES – (F) MARTY WESTHAVER

The 20-year-old forward Westhaver, enters this season as one of the returning forwards from last year’s team and has had an impressive start to the campaign. Westahver is nearly a point per game player and has 3 power-play points on the young season.
