  1. US

The Spruce Kings are coming off a 4-3 comeback victory against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Despite PG going down 3-0 in the opening five minutes of the second period, the Spruce Kings scored four unanswered goals to give them the victory. Nick Poisson continues to impress who now has four goals in his last two games. Poisson had two goals last night including the game winning goal. Jett Alexander got the win in between the pipes making 27 saves. Jaxon Steele and Nolan Welsh also tallied for the Spruce Kings. Poisson says a comeback victory like this is huge for his club moving forward…

“Starting off on a big road trip, that was a big win for our team and hopefully some momentum coming into some more games on the road here” says Poisson.

THEM

The Clippers are coming off of a 4-1 win just four days ago against the Trail Smoke Eaters. Tyler Williams and Devon Mussio both had a goal and an assist in the victory, while goaltender Jordan Naylor made 22 saves in a winning effort. Nanaimo has won seven in a row heading into tonight’s clash with PG. Tonight wraps up a brief two game home-stand for the Clippers before a three game road trip beginning Friday in Cowichan.

  1. US VS THEM

This is the second and final meeting between the Clippers and Spruce Kings. Nanaimo won the first matchup over a month ago at the RMCA. The Clippers edged the Spruce Kings 5-4 in a shootout where former Spruce King Sean Donaldson scored the shootout winner. Spruce Kings forward Corey Cunningham also had three points in the loss for the Spruce Kings a month ago against the Clippers

  1. THIS AND THAT

THIS: Following tonight’s game with the Clippers, the Spruce Kings will be off tomorrow before taking on the Merritt Centennials Friday night in Merritt. That one at the Nicola Valley Memorial Centre is slated for a 7:00 puck drop. THAT: Forward Jaxon Steele has been a force for the Spruce Kings in his last three games. The former Medicine Hat Tiger has two goals in his last three games.

  1. PLAYERS TO WATCH

SPRUCE KINGS (F) COREY CUNNINGHAM

Cunningham has gotten some great looks at the goal as of late. He has been robbed a couple of times on some glorious chances. Cunningham also had three points the last time these two teams met, therefore, Cunningham will look to have another big effort against the island division leading Clippers.

CLIPPERS – (F) KYLER KOVICH

Kovich has had a great start to the season. The 2002 born forward has 18 points in his first 26 games played this year. Kovich also had two goals the last time these two clubs met and will look for another big night tonight on home ice.
