The Prince George Spruce Kings emptied the gas tanks against the West Kelowna Warriors.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Warriors edged the Spruce Kings on Sunday by a 4-3 score to complete a three-game road swing in less than 48 hours.
Chase Stevenson and Lucas Cullen put West Kelowna ahead 2-0 13 minutes into the opening frame sliding a couple past Prince George goalie Bradley Cooper.
Less than a minute later, Kyle Johnson cut the deficit in half after taking advantage of a Ethan de Jong feed shorthanded making it 2-1 Warriors after 20 minutes.
Just 35 seconds into the second period West Kelowna restored their two-goal lead courtesy of Michael Lombardi who finished off a three-way scoring play.
The Spruce Kings continued to fight back later in the period as Dustin Manz buried one past Warriors netminder Cody Porter slashing the advantage back to a single goal at the end of two periods.
In the third, Jared Marino potted the insurance marker 1:57 of the final frame giving the hosts their third two-goal edge of the contest.
Ben Brar replied late in the period on the power-play for the Spruce Kings.
De Jong finished the game with three assists in a losing effort.
Prince George outshot West Kelowna 37-32.
Cooper made 28 saves in defeat.
The Spruce Kings record is now 11-9-0-1 and return home next Friday and Saturday against the Nanaimo Clippers and West Kelowna.
